MASTER CLASSES AT MSBA
MASTER CLASSES EXPOSE STUDENTS TO SOME OF THE BEST BOTANICAL ARTISTS WORKING IN THE FIELD. WHILE SOME WATERCOLOR EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY, ALL LEVELS OF ACCOMPLISHMENT ARE WELCOME.

MINNESOTA SCHOOL OF BOTANICAL ART
KATE NESSLER - Botanical Ephemera on Vellum
Don’t miss this opportunity to take a Master Class from one of America’s most prominent and innovative botanical artists. Kate has won numerous awards, including three Gold Medals (1990, 1991, 1993) from the Royal Horticultural Society, England. In 1997 she was presented with the Award of Excellence from the American Society of Botanical Artists. Her work is included in the permanent collections of the RHS, the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation, Pittsburgh PA, The Morton Arboretum, Lisle, IL, The Shirley Sherwood Collection, England, as well as in numerous public and private collections. She is a contributing member of the Brooklyn Botanical Garden Florilegium, NY, and her work has been selected for inclusion in the Highgrove Florilegium. This is presently being created under the umbrella of the Prince of Wales Charitable Foundation and will celebrate and record in a permanent way the flora in the garden at Highgrove.
Students will learn the many nuances of working on calfskin vellum. Vellum will be distributed during the class.

Illustrating Fungi
We are pleased to announce the return of Alexander Viazmensky to the Minnesota School of Botanical Art. His work is in important collections throughout the world including the Hunt Institute of Botanical Documentation, the Lindley Library, the Shirley Sherwood Collection, the Komarov Botanical Institute in St. Petersburg, Russia, the Farlow Library at Harvard University, and the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
His singular style of portraying fungi has made him a favorite among collectors throughout the world. He comes to the United States from St. Petersburg, Russia.

ELAINE SEARLE- BRITISH BOTANICAL PAINTING
APRIL 13, 14, 15, 2011
Elaine Searle’s work has been included in the Highgrove Florilegium, created under the Prince of Wale’s Charitable Foundation. Two of her works were exhibited at the 12th International Exhibition of the Hunt Institute of Documentation. In January 2008 she was awarded a Silver Gilt medal by the Royal Horticulture Society for an exhibit of eight watercolours of succulents. Elaine comes to us from Holt, in the north of England.
