New Works from the Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden Florilegium
May 29 - September 3, 2017
Minnesota School of Botanical Art
Longfellow House
The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary and the Minnesota School of Botanical Art have partnered to create a florilegium to document 135 of the unique and special plants in the Garden. A florilegium is a collection of artworks depicting plants that provides a visual historical record of flora found in a specific location. The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary, operated by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board, is the oldest public wildflower garden in the United States and encompasses fifteen acres of woodland, wetland and prairie ecosystems. Begun in 2010, this is an ongoing project. New works accepted into the collection will be on exhibit at Longfellow House, open weekends between Memorial and Labor Days. Please stop in to see this unique collection.

Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden Florilegium

January 14 - February 28, 2017
American Swedish Institute

The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden in Minneapolis, established in 1907, was America’s first public wildflower garden.
The garden is the inspiration for the Florilegium—a collection of botanical drawings and paintings that represent the it's myriad plants. The works were created by a group of artists from the Minnesota School of Botanical Art, who have committed to depicting 135 plants. A selection of these artworks will be displayed in ASI’s Benson Gallery,
Each artist focuses on the growing season of a particular plant to capture its integrity; a drawing can take one to two years to complete. The Eloise Butler Florilegia captures the plants so that they may be viewed in 500 years as they appear today.
The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden and Bird Sanctuary is owned and operated by the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board. Visit the website for more information.
